Under Company Commanders, I was in the 170th from ‘74 to ‘77. Johnny J. Spearman was C.O. until.’76, then Captain Richardson took command. After ‘77 I have no clue.

I was at the Presidio from Dec.75 til July 76. My Platoon Sargeant was SFC Bell. Littler if I remember right we were in the same platoon. Do you remember Petticque who was pretty heavy and Bowers called him Jelly Roll. So Petticque got a name tag with “J Roll” on it and wore it on his class As.

I sure as heck do! I remember you, and Jelly Roll was my roommate at one time. Sgt. Bell was the one that got me into the Santa Rosa Police Academy, wasn’t the hardass that he wanted people to believe! Bowers, what a character!! Do you remember Yakima, when he got hooked up with a stripper, and got into a fight with bikers?

I often wonder what became of alot of guys we were there with.

You remember Sgt. Murray?? He found me 3 years ago, I have visited him and Patsy twice in Iowa, and he has come here twice. Man, years have gone by fast!

What have you done since the service, or did you make it a career?

Hey Steve, when I ETSed in July 76 I worked for the VA for a couple of years as a cop. Then I got hired by Livermore PD. I worked there for about 6 years then moved back to Iowa. I don’t remember Yakima I was only at the Presidio for about 7 months. I came to the 170th from the 110th in Korea. I don’t remember a Sgt Murray. I do remember an E-5, I think his name was Merrill. My room mate who was never there was Fawley. Keep sending the emails and you’ll spur some more memories. G Johnson

Yea, Mike Merrill…………..Mike Fawley was a real piece of work……lol

Maybe you remember Sgt. Jim Beal, or Sgt. Pat Clausing. Murray lives in Des Moine.

When I ETS’d I went to work at San Quentin for 4 years, then moved back to Michigan. Been a contractor ever since.

Did you continue in L.E. when you moved to Iowa?

  • Greg Johnson // June 25, 2009 at 10:05 am | Reply

No I don’t remember Beal or Clausing. I live in Dubuque. My wifs family is in and around the Des Moines area. No I am not in L.E. I considered it. The Wisconsin Highway Patrol wanted to hire me but I decided not to. I’m in the car business. Sales, Business Mgr. and Sales Mgr. Where are you at in Michigan? Our youngest is 17 and she plays hockey for Shattuck St. Marys in faribault Mn. She used to go to the hockey camp at Michigan Tech, and she also has played against Little Ceasers, Honey Baked, Bell Tire, and Victory Honda.

Another guy I remember is big Chris Heiden. I remember his Mom had a boyfriend. His Mom was found dead and the guy was gone. The Sgt I remember is SSG. Waxman talk about big. He had a Goldwing as I recall.

    Hey Greg…

I live near Traverse City, very close to Lake Michigan. I remember Heiden, felt real bad for him when he got that news. Always wondered if they ever solved that case.

Yea, Waxman was a big one! I remember they gave him a choice, lose weight or get thrown out!

Was Lt. Hall our platoon leader when you were there? Contacted him a couple years ago, he didn’t stay in either………..ended up marrying some Federal prosecutor I think.

Hey Steve sorry about the delay. Wasn’t Hall the Enlisted guy who went to OCS and then they sent him back to his previous station (which they never do). If so I remember him but I really didn’t know him.
